BuckJumping

What surprised me this week was leaving the class to watch the film Buckjumping! When we watched the trailer in class I was excited to see more. While watching the film, I was hooked. The music, the dancing, and the art is really unique to the New Orleans culture. There was part in the film that recorded a funeral. The way in which the families and the community celebrates their loved ones is very different than my expectation of funerals. It was interesting seeing mostly everyone wearing the chosen color yellow rather than all black. What was also interesting to learn was the hard work and dedication the Mardi Gras Indians put into creating their gear. What really shocked me was when one of the members described the time when the needle went through his hand and he fixed it and went right back to sewing! WOW!! ’m so excited to attend the parades and celebrate!
