My friends and I await to see the bands making their way down the street. The first band that came down was Jackson State University. The members approached the crowd marching with their instruments and the dancers swaying their hips with a great big smile. Since I was so close to the front the sounds of the instruments playing were really loud but I enjoyed every bit of it. Sometimes when the parade will slow down the band members looked exhausted and were just happy to put their instruments down for the moment. I wondered how early they had to get up and what did they practice before the parade or did they even practice at all? I figured they had to get up way earlier than my friends and I since they were in the parade. One of my friends mentioned his mother and family camped out all night in preparation for the big day tomorrow. It was amazing the students performed, especially them being from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and showing their talents for the community.
