The potential impact the Coronavirus has on parading culture in New Orleans is huge. The parading culture consists of a bunch of people in the community together gathering and having a great time. Especially around Mardi Gras season not only is it the New Orleans community but people coming from all over the world! Based on my first Mardi Gras experience what made it fun was the gathering of everyone trying to get the beads thrown from the float riders. Now that social distancing is important, this can impact the way people celebrate and remember Mardi Gras. Even though, Mardi Gras is not until next year we don’t know if there are going to be restrictions placed for now on the number of people that can gather around the same place. Also, even by people’s own decisions from this outbreak, many people may not want to come out to celebrate. An idea that I can think of for Krewe’s is to limit the number of people on each float to be able to follow the guidelines and also still have fun with their members and their community.
